Dealer damaged my boat!

Hey fellas, wanted to see if any of you had any experience with something like this... Took the boat to the dealer to have engine looked at as it was giving a warning tone when starting up. They took the boat out today(damn near the windiest day of the year so far) to test their fix actions. I get a call from the dealership owner apologizing up one side and down the other. He's been a good dealer to work with to this point and wants to do whatever he can to make this right. The problem is, I don't have any idea what something like this is worth in form of compensation... $500, $1000, etc. The dealer is willing to throw down cash, accessories or whatever I can think of.

Anyone had something like this repaired? How much did it cost?

IMO, your dealer owes you a new pontoon log. It's a newer boat that he damaged. You can have a new nosecone welded on, but it'll never look the same. I'd insist on a new log.

That's inline with what I was thinking too. Resale value is definitely going to take a hit if I leave it like this... So what does a new log cost, ballpark?

Should be $Zero.
The dealer should eat 100% of the cost of that. That's why they have insurance.

Oh you're DAMN skippy this will cost me nothing! I was asking more to the point of what would 'I' expect to pay out of pocket to have it fixed?

Depending on the OD and length a new log runs from 2000 to 4000 and mmm 4 hours to install at 100 per.

I agree that the log should be replaced.

Tell the owner to have his Insurance Company send out an Adjuster to examine the boat and have the dealer perform the repairs.

That way, HE gets to repair HIS mistake at HIS cost with HIS Insurance taking the hit.

That's why businesses have insurance.

I know. I had a business. I had employees. I had a $3Million Liability Policy just in case one of them screwed up REALLY big time.

So have the Business Man handled it in a Business Fashion.

MH is pretty darn close with that I would say . Dealers insurance should cover it.

He's got a 25 footer. more like 6k or more. The log my insurance company replaced after my Party Cruiser was damaged was $8500 plus $750 shipping.

Just had a leaky log replaced, 22" log with strakes, they told me it cost over $8000.00, dealer cost $5090.00 (they had me sign the warrenty paperwork which I looked thru and had the invoice in it). It took them 1 day change out.

About 5K (dealer cost), $7,500/$8,500 retail pending on market competitive prices.

Have your attorney send him a letter. Suggesting that he him throw in a middle log for your pain/suffering and loss of your boats companionship.

So after cooling down for a bit, I called the dealer back. We came to an agreement that he will take possession of the boat after the season and send it off to either have the nose cone or the whole log replaced at the factory. I feel pretty good about it for now. I asked that he put all that in writing just to make sure no one 'forgets' over the summer.

At least that in my experiences I still get hosed. But can't afford to lose any boating time. I'd also have him put the boat will be as clean as it was when u dropped it off. When I got mine back I had 2 days of detailing... Good Luck

I have an estimate from South Bay for the replacement cost of a 25'6"-25" diameter with strake log and the cost of the log was $2900 plus $1250 for installation. This includes time needed to remove the underskinning and putting it back etc. Hope this helps.

Cycleman 07, I was wondering where some of these estimates were coming from yours sounds more inline and the dealer can get it done even cheaper.
