It's all according to what you want. About 10 years ago my wife and I got caught in a severe thunderstorm in our old 20' Harris Pontoon with a top speed of 20mph. It was the first time I felt we might be in trouble boating. We saw the storm coming and we were in the middle of a large lake and couldn't run for cover. It was a bad experience.
Since that time I have had many pontoons, all were able to run at least 40mph and I have not been caught out in the open water. I do like putting around but I'm not going to get myself in that position again. Here in Florida if you worried about a thunderstorm coming you wouldn't boat so you have to have a boat to outrun a storm and get you to safe harbor.
I totally agree with you. About a month ago I was about 6 miles offshore in the GoM (SW of Sanibel) when an afternoon storm started forming to the south heading north. About that same time another was forming up around Punta Gorda heading south - with me in between. I came home WOT and as I neared Sanibel the Coasties rolled up on me in a RIB. Asked me what the hurry was and I pointed out the two storms. They did a routine safety inspection (all good) and commented "this thing goes pretty fast - I clocked you at 40 mph" (my gps said 39.4 mph). I made it back to the marina safe and dry.

That's the reason why I have a 150hp motor - not to run around like a jackass, but to get me (and help keep me) out of harms way when I need it.

However, Brad's South Bay that ran 114 and then 113 at the LOTO Shootout is still worth mentioning. Just amazing speeds. Thanks to some great friends at LOTO, we got to witness both of those runs over the last couple of years, as well as the Playcraft runs as well.
Yes it is. As well as his dedication to improving pontoons in general. The contest between Brad(Southbay-outboard) And Ken (Playcraft-I/O)pushed pontoon boats to a new level. Through race testing the product improves.
Between Playcraft, Manitou and Southbay as well as others competition continues to make these hulls all around boats. It allows those of us that were multi boat owners to consolidate to one boat. A boat that can be used as a platform for any recreation on the water.

Yep. Like I said before , looks like my old Arctic Cat race gear with all the flashy colors and checkered flags. Love the boats but the interiors are way too loud .
They are a custom builder. The interior can be arranged or look anyway you want-

Playcraft can and will build whatever you want in terms of layout and color schemes. They built this one with rear facing lounges...and 700HP if you want it.

Liberty, that is a cool boat. Post some more pictures and share some details if you have them (length, interior shots, engine details, performance, etc.). These are definitely not your grandpa's pontoons!

Heard today he's running 90mph with that set up. Two stroke outboards are way more fun-
Some photos- please note the out of date interior? Check the rear shot- bottom a little different.

For a price, Playcraft can custom build just about whatever you can think of, and I am sure others can as well. As for their checker styling, it is still popular on LOTO where they are based and sell a lot of boats. But if you look at their other boats, they also have the simple colors as well.
