An almost 24 foot xcursion with the 3/4 center tube and a 115 yamaha running a spitfire 13.8 x 13 pitch prop I am a consistent 27 gps with 2 adults and 2 kids at about 5700 rpm.

Props do make a big difference. I have a 20 ft Lowe with 90 Optimax. With a 16 pitch stainless I was getting 29 GPS but was hitting rev limiter so had pitch raised to 17. Now I hit 27 GPS with 5450 rpm instead of around 5800.
Stock aluminum 16 in pitch still gets 29 GPS. I'll get my SS prop reworked to 16 in to get my WOT rpm's back up to around 5800. I've already spun the SS prop once and had to get it rehubbed----working too hard pushing my loaf of bread thru the water

Do heavier pontoons do better with 4 blade props. I imagine my boat is getting on the heavy side since I've added the second hard top, 3rd toon, air tank & 12v compressor for horns, grill, and 30 gal. of fuel. It does have an aluminum deck though which may save a little weight opposed to plywood.

In my experience 4 blade props are better for coming out of the hole in outboards and monohull boats. In pontoons I don't know that a 4 blade would help in top in speeds. Someone may have real time experience with that but this is what I have experienced in the past.

So a SS 3 blade is going to be best for top end speed
Re: What's your top speed on 24' w/ 115 hp?
yup the 4 blade slowed me down about 1-2mph however the benefit is the holding power, when you corner hard with the 3 blade props I would find there was more cavitation/prop blowout. The 4 blade held much better, especially when towing tubers behind the boat.

I was trying to decide which prop to buy for tubing, mine blows out with tubes with alot of drag when cornering. Maybe 4 blades the way to go?Littlehoe wrote:yup the 4 blade slowed me down about 1-2mph however the benefit is the holding power, when you corner hard with the 3 blade props I would find there was more cavitation/prop blowout. Re: What's your top speed on 24' w/ 115 hp?
I have tried about 8 different props, stainless, aluminum, 3 blade, 4 blade, pontoon specific, you name it and so far the best prop on my Yamaha has been a Mercury Spitfire 4 blade aluminum, 13.8 diameter with a 13 pitch.
I had tons of prop blowout in corners or if the boat was loaded front heavy or tubing, I thought the leg was to short and all kinds of crazy thoughts... but the 4 blade prop has been the saviour in all of it. I suggest finding a good dealer that will let you demo a prop or 2 and just go try it out before you commit.

2 365 Crestliner Batata Bay, under skinned with a 115 Honda 4 stroke spinning a Solas 3 blade 11p. I have seen 28 mph with just me onboard.

I don't get any blowout since I added the 3rd toon, even when pulling a tube and cornering so I'm thinking stainless steel 3 prop might be the best option for me but since I don't have a tachometer installed yet I don't know what specs to get.
Re: What's your top speed on 24' w/ 115 hp?
Our first pontoon was a Sweetwater 216RE with a sport center toon, a short center toon. It gave us a lot of bow rise when going slow, just what it does. We had a yamaha 115, had it lowered to the last hole, then put a 15 pitch stainless steel 3 blade and we could still get 40mph with just wife and I in the boat and 1/2 tank of gas. We had to watch the rpms at that point of course. That was on GPS. Lots of hole shot and speed, but, it was a lighter and shorter boat than some and less drag with a sport toon in the center. The problem with the sport tube was when you got a boat load of people on the toon, we lost a lot of bouyancyand were down to about 22 mph.
We know have the toon in signature line below and do 40 mph with the two of us and 1/2 tank of gas but when we have a boat load of people we can still do 30 mph and pull a skier or wake boarder.
