Shock of my life, when I took the cover off

#1 Post by Beamer » Tue May 12, 2009 7:08 am

I took the cover off last week-end and got the shock of my life.
A Raccoon decided to take up residence and did a LOT of damage.
She basically shredded all along the bottom and got a couple seats, pissed and rip up spots all over the carpet.
Damaged some wiring, ripped a speaker out to get access to one of the compartments.
I had the adjuster and person who will be doing the repairs out yesterday, so thankfully it's covered by insurance.
The shop will have it for a couple weeks as they have completely remove everything from the deck to replace the carpet and work on the lounges, so I can only imagine what the cost will be.
So, hopefully will have it back in the water sometime in June and thanks God for insurance in this case.

Beemer,

that sucks! I was really worried about coons too. I ended up putting dryer sheets tucked into all my seats Not sure if thats what did it but no coons and or bugs, at last check last month, so I think I am in the clear . Thought I would try that instead of mothballs (better smell). Good thing its covered, little bastard did a helluva lot of damage.

We use Bounce sheets in our place up north and they seems to work, I should have used them in the boat as well. Lesson learned.
But I think next year I'll have the boat shrink wrapped to seal it up.
With the tarp, the ends were still open a bit so she was able to get it.

Id still do the bounce sheets trick even if you shrink wrap it....
One swipe of a coons claws will let it right through shrink wrap..

Stupid creature.... :ak47

Dog has a climate controlled dog house, she wont use it,sleeps under the boat, if something smaller then her comes in the yard she kills it, no problem.

Oh my - that is a huge shock!!! Didn't you notice tracks near the boat??? I know you said you stored it on your property this yr..... I know bounce sheets are used for mice - I can't see a raccoon would even be bothered by bounce. WOW - sorry to see those pics Beamer......wish you luck on getting that back in the water soon.

Damn...I would be pissed. Good that it's covered by insurance though. People wonder why I keep this around for critter control :tofunny Remington 870 tactical with laser sight/flashlight combo.

ouch, that's awful, beamer!

will mothballs keep coons away? i'm not second guessing you, i'm asking.
i use mothballs and have never had a coon go under the tarp, and we
have lots of coons around here. i just really want to avoid having my
own shock like that!

Flote,

I have never heard of anyone using mothballs get coons. Personally, the smell makes me chuck especially if I'm drinking and usually I am :drink :drunks , so I used bounce and it worked for me out in the woods with LOTS of coons. But this was my first winter. Maybe I got lucky but the human smell makes sense.

i agree that the first cruise of the year STINKS of mothballs.
but we store the toon outdoors with no cover under a
roof shelter with no walls--lots of wind. so once i finally
get it unwrapped hopefully no coons and the smell will go away.
