Pest Control – Help Needed

#1 Post by Ddancers » Sat Apr 23, 2016 11:42 am

This year my boat slip is much closer to shore.
My first time out when I arrived at the boat it had hundreds of small pests all over it.
Think they’re nats, or gnats’ not sure tiny little things.
I’ve order a repellent that is stated as being fabric and plastic safe called
Sawyer Products Premium Permethrin Clothing Insect Repellent Trigger Spray.
Haven’t tried yet.

Just wondering if anyone else has had same problem, and a good solution to get rid of these tiny little pests.

Mothballs work great for inside the boat. Pace a bag in the storage areas. For the outside, it's gonna be tought to keep critters off. I put a windscreen above the boat in the slip to keep spider and bird shit off of the cover. Works great. Better then great.

Permethrin is great stuff. It's what they mix in water to dip dogs in. I tihink it's actually a termicide, but works great on fleas and other pests. Just spray it on your boat mixed in a 1 gallon sprayer--and come back a week later and spray it again. Most pests shouldn't want to be around the boat. It's not so harmful to humans, either. If your dogs/cats bring fleas into a house, it'll get rid of them.

Permethrin is recommended to spray on your clothes that you spend lots of time outdoors in.

Good for 2-3 washings.

Be sure to spray in a well ventilated area and let dry.

I'd bet it'd be good on a boat as well.
