Need the forums advice and feedback on new item

#1 Post by James Myers » Thu Apr 20, 2017 5:51 pm

Hi Everyone

We are developing a new console that is designed to go between two bucket or helm seats in the front of the boat... like a cocktail group and instead of a table we'd put this console against the railing and mount a seat on each side. You could relax in your chairs and have a place to put drinks, a small table top and the lid would remove and you'd have storage inside (it'll be teflon coated rotomold plastic so it'll look very good)...

This is our initial design... thoughts, feedback? What else could we do?

Interesting idea. Looks nice.
When you say "against the railing", are you talking bow rail or side rail?
Seems like against the bow rail would block the bow gate.

It will go against the side rails, like this image from a Bennington. They use a small fiberglass console with a speaker and we are looking for something that have more usage rather than just something that looks cool... trying to make it cool too of course :)

First thought would be a plug so you could use the storage area as a cooler but it sounds like that's the direction you are heading already. A Qi wireless charging option for phones would be a neat add on option. I've been thinking about getting one of the marine pucks to put in the tray on my console.

It would be nice if you could remove just the triangle portion at the top, or have it hinged, for storage or a cooler so you didn't have to move the cups to get to the storage area.

Obviously lighted cup holders would be a nice option as well.

I like it! I would consider a setup like that but am concerned about storage lost by removing the bench already in it's place in our case. I may have to give up that storage, though.

I believe the two small angled portions, by the side rail when installed, are there for aesthetic reasons, It would add more storage if it was straight all along the back side. And the floor space not covered with these angles would probably be hard to maintain/clean.

Just a thought. I do like the looks of it.

I like the design. Dimensions would help. I am assuming it would be no wider that a gate opening. Does it have a bottom panel or would it be open. If it were used for storage without a solid bottom. Items stored could get wet.

Just my 2c.

Keep us posted. Depending on final design. I would be interested.

These are great! The unit will be fully enclosed, it's rotomolded plastic so the bottom won't be open, we'll build drains into and double wall it so it's filled with foam for use as a cooler. Love the idea of just having the top part removable so the cups and storage drop will stay fixed! Will update with new sketches soon!

Just noodling, what about the same base with different Lids for different purposes. One with holes and holders for fishing stuff. One with metal tray for glass rock little fire pit, one with a flip out table with leg, one with game table that flips over for different board games, one that has a little sink with little self contained water system, one with usb power slots and ram mounts for tablets and fish finder, one that has just a trash container, one that could hide the anchor.... you get the idea.

Hey James, this is exactly what I was looking for a couple of months ago, for a livewell, I would prefer the top to be hinged, , and the cup holders be fixed to the base, just a lid for storage or a live well, and thanks again for all you help with the rebuild, you and Stephanie were great,Tim

Could you put a hinged lid, in the top section? I know that production cost vs what that does to retail cost is always a concern. ( to my little business, it is anyway) But, that way you won't need to disturb the whole top section to access the cooler (base). That would reduce fumbling around with it while the boat is in motion and make it more user friendly. But the removable top will work wonderful for cleaning the cooler portion.
And yes, different interchangeable tops for different purposes would be a great idea, down the road. I like the whole idea of it! I've been telling the guys at Manitou to incorporate a built in cooler for years! People hate hauling portable coolers in and out of boats.

Depending on the size it looks like it would be a nice "fishing" console for the middle rear on a Fishing toon. Maybe include some easy to drill/bosses for making it a small bait/livewell? Maybe even big enough to hide a Smaller built in gas tank for rebuilds?
