Finally got her Underskinned

After consecutive weekends of torrential rain, I FINALLY got a nice Saturday to get the Under-skinning completed. It turned out great! . Used .080 alum sheet that I got for gratis from a supplier. Gotta love that, right? lol We first laid down a bead of 3M UV4000 Marine adhesive across the entire length of the cross braces, then attached thru pre drilled holes in the sheets on 6" centers with #10 SS TEK Screws with a Cordless Impact Gun. Way easier than drilling thru all the layers with a regular screw gun. The reason for the adhesive is simple. If for some reason the TEK screws back off or should come loose, the sheets are going NO WHERE.
What a difference in ride and noise level!!! Picked up a couple miles an hour top end but so much quieter.

Looks great, but I have to ask what is the point? I know my last pontoon was a bit ugly on the bottom and I could see the wires and all, but is it all cosmetic.

New boat is a Veranda so that's how it looks stock.

Underskinning eliminates the water coming off the pontoons from slamming into the cross members and acting like a set of brakes .especially in choppy water. Additionally, underskinning will reduce the vast majority of the noise associated with the water spray.
Some will also say that you gain a couple miles an hour in top e d speed. I picked up 3.
I didn't do it for the speed. I did it for the better ride and quietness it brings. Plus it's less stress on your under pinnings

Looks great!!
I'm suprised that's not standard on all new boats nowadays. I bought mine in 2016 it came with deflectors attached to the crossmembers to direct the water flow down but would still like to add underskinning some day..

Finally got to spend a day on the lake . Been too long since we had it out. Lake is still 19 ft above normal but clear day, no trash left in the lake so it was a good day!!.
WOW. What a difference the under skinning made!!! Quite difference in quietness and overall a good investment of time. no more thrashing water sound especially when crossing a wake and I think we actually picked up a couple miles of top speed when we cracked her open on the run back at the end of the day. Wife noticed immediately.
Should have done this three years ago when I bought the damned thing!!!
