Thoughts on Merc 60 4 stroke Command Thrust

#1 Post by jwbsub » Fri Mar 02, 2018 9:10 pm

Went to a couple of boat shows the last two weekends. Now I am getting a clearer idea of which pontoon I am going to buy. I have two definite candidates, both the same price and from the same dealer.

Bennington 188SF with Yamaha F50 High Thrust
Qwest Edge 818 SC with Merc 60HP Command Thrust

I have a F50 on my Alumacraft, I know this motor well. No experience of the Merc 4-strokes. How does the Merc compare with the F50.

No experience with the Yamaha. I bought a new 18 bass buggy with a Mercury 60ct. No issues, not many hours yet. runs fine. Top speed so far is 22.9 with a light load. I think my biggest mistake in the beginning was filling the tank with too much gas. Huge tank for a 60hp. I'm not on the lake every week. gas gets really old. I have actually pumped some out and will start over. Will try filling with only what I need for a trip or two and try to keep it fresh, maybe carry a little one or two gal can just in case. Also added a racor 120r separator, seems to be the perfect size. Motor is quiet and smooth. https://www.westmarine.com/buy/racor--1 ... r--1930445
