UPDATE!!

Took her out in the river today with a full tank of gas, two people (including myself), and the new 15.6” 13P SS prop. WOT topped out at 5400 RPM trimmed up a bit with a top speed downstream of 30mph and 25ish upstream.

Next step I guess is to raise it up a hole, right?

Any other thoughts?
Now you're talking! Good job...

All this talk about performance issues with boats, props ,etc. got me to thinking about my favorite boat of all time. A 1979 Venture with the 115 hp Merc stacked 6 cyl engine. Completely stock setup-engine raised about one inch off the transom, 19 inch pitch 2 blade SS prop with a slight cup. For all you bassboat owners-now and before-speed was the thing. Mine was an honest 55 mph boat-quick out of the hole-no "Hydrosport crawl" and at top speed and trimmed out-almost zero chine walk-and dang near hands off steering with torque tab set correctly-a dream to drive. Handled rough chop well for a 16.5 ft boat-would outrun a Hydrosport of Skeeter Wrangler in rough water.

Dealer had one set up for speed and it would run 62 but slow getting out of the hole and kinda squirrelly, etc so I passed on that setup.

The Venture hull I had set a world record around 1982 I believe--82 mph with rated HP--would have loved to have seen that. Anyways for all you speed freaks and former or current bass tournament fishermen here's a pic taken late 79 early 1980 I believe. Toledo Bend Texas Frontier Park Marina.

I cannot believe a dealer sold you a 150 hp motor for a boat without lifting strakes. Unless you have them, you are missing 10-12 mph and burning much too much fuel. You need to get those nosecones out of the water, and that requires strakes. Try to find another boat like yours with strakes and copy the length, angles and placement in the toons. Some manufacturers sell uncounted strakes thru dealer parts.

Do you (or anyone else here) happen to know how much it would cost to add strakes? Would you add to inside and outside of each toon?

Bama's right, Typical dealer bull shit, The guy (salesman) either doesn't know anything about pontoons or doesn't care about your needs or wallet. He probably assumes you'll be back for another boat now that you actually want the performance that you payed for. No one should build a tri-toon with out strakes.
