How many boat fenders???

#1 Post by dgreene62 » Sat May 26, 2018 5:03 am

Just got my new Bennington 22 SSRX. I'm putting together a list of things I need including boat fenders. The dealer only gave us 2 fenders with the purchase. I thought that didn't seem enough for a 23' pontoon.
How many boat fenders would you guys recommend on a 23' pontoon.
What size do you recommend?
Do you just get enough for one side and switch them back and forth or do you put them on both sides and let them stay?

I have three, but most of the time if I need them at all I only use two. They are only meant to be deployed when in use. Don't leave them hanging off the side when you are underway! That's a rookie move.

I use two 8" fenders on my 22' pontoon.I only have them on the port side because that is where the side gate is, so I always tie up on that side.

I keep three on board... I think they're 10" but not sure about that. I also have ez fender mounts on the rails on both sides of my toon so I can set them out lickity split without worrying about tieing them up at the correct height for whatever dock I'm at.

I have 6 on the boat - 3 for each side when rafting up although most of the time I am only using 2 at the tiki dock or gas dock.
EZ Fenders are highly recommended!

I have 6 on board, 4-10", 2-8". It's always about location and conditions. Rafting on a small lake is different than a large open bay.
I prefer Taylor type and styles.

Six for me. Two for port and starboard and two for the bow, depending on the dock.

I’m now in my seasonal lake. Turns out they had lots of wind this last week. After some experimentation, I now have three on the dock side, and two on the other side since I’m in a double slip. I shouldn’t have anyone in that slip much, but if so I want to protect that side. I will likely add a third. In the rear I have the AKUA fenders. I had one in the middle, but lost it the first night. The boat sits too high in the front to use them, it doesn’t contact the dock. For the others I am using ones that are 23” long, and fat (conventional from Walmart). Works well. I’m also using EZ Fender attachments. Just ordered two more. Those are really nice and affordable.

So...I recommend three on dock side, large and long with EX fender attachment.

my problem is the toon next to us, it's rub rail/trim on deck is about 8 inches higher than ours

I need to get a couple fenders that are 24/36 inches long, I just hope he is careful when parking, we don't power in, I let her off on end od dock with bow and long stern line and she holds boat while I turn it off and then we just pull her in, I am afraid of hitting the other toon and taking my fence out :censored

Yep, that’s what I’m afraid of. Maybe the AKUA fenders might work for you on that side to help protect you from your neighbor.

Steve neat product line, I am going to toon tonight after work, to hook up some portable electronics and plan to measure for aluminum plates I can hang off rails and then put a couple fenders between it and my boat, like a "crush" zone

Well picked up some more fenders at wally world, and a pc of plywood, so i have 2 pcs 24x48, tied together and lashed to boat, should help with possible impacts that would take out the fence

I have 6, 3 on each side and I use ezfenders to hold them. That way I don’t have to move them if I need to tie up on weather side.

For you guys sitting next to a boat that sits higher than yours, consider an anchor ball or two in between the two boats. There've been times in the past I used my center console's anchor ball as fender protection.
