Center toon storage issues?

#1 Post by riplipper » Fri Jul 20, 2018 4:04 pm

Hi guys, looking really hard at a few boats that offer center locker storage in the middle toon.
Sounds like an awesome thing, but also seems that it could be an Issue, water, mold, rough seas water intrusion?

Just wondering if anyone has had any issues or if it is just a great thing to have. Seems awesome to me but just cautious.

Thanks for the help.

We had a center storage locker on our Premier and had an issue with the gasket leaking. Premier repaired it under warranty and I had my dealer install a bilge pump. That took some creativity since my toon was not designed for a bilge pump.

My advice is to get the storage locker but make sure that you have bilge pump.

after doing some research, I think most come with a bilge pump now. I think we have elected to skip it due to the amount of storage on the boat we are looking at. 1000k for another storage bin is just not worth it....at least I don't think so at this time.

I've got a center toon storage locker and there is nothing watertight about my hatch. One end is a deep well for water to drain to and outfitted with a bilge pump. It's automatic as long as you leave a battery turned on. Regardless, the additional room it provides is wonderful.

I think the center storage is great for kneeboards, wakeboards, pool noodles, ect. Basically anything that can handle the dampness. I wouldn't recommend storing life jackets, boat covers, ect. for extended periods or things that you'd worry about mold or mildew with. In my opinion, if it's a higher hp boat that will be used for watersports then I'd say get it just for resale alone. Lots of people look for it when buying. Especially performance toons. Plus, you'd probably use it more than you think.

I agree with Renegade. Use the check out of center storage on our boat.

I store my center toon under the deck, between my other two toons...

That's what you were asking about, right? :biggrin2

When I moved from a traditional V hull with in-floor storage to my Tritoon, I thought about losing that center storage but I figured there was plenty of other storage on my new boat that I wouldn't miss it, so I didn't worry about having it on the 'toon. Turns our I do miss it. There's no where on my 'toon to store anything as long as skis, an oar, noodles, etc.
