Six Years into this Adventure

So, I have to say it's been a great adventure so far, and I have over 1,600 hours and 9,000 miles on my toon since 2012. Things that used to give me challenges, are snoozers today. I've been solo launching and recovering my boat (once per season) for at least 3 years. I've been sleeping on the boat about 60 nights per year. Taking it to the next level, is honestly pretty frightening... but how hard can it be to transition to 365 nights per year? The Ocean is calling. The Admiral is with me on this (how lucky is that?) Our little Jordan (Pug/Beagle mix) loves being on the boat. Arguments against? Healthcare. Hurricanes. Learning Español. Nah, I can manage the Español. Oceanside slips are cheaper than any other living accommodation I can imagine. This could be the most affordable and adventure filled retirement anybody could ask for!

Sounds great Bob! I'll take a picture of an ocean cat next week when I'm on Dauphin Island. She's always berthed there not sure when they take her out, but she's a real beaut!

Can you see her!?

Check Gone With the Wynns and Sailing Doodles. Watch doodles just for the hot girl. She loves to show off in tiny bikinis

As much fun as that adventure sounds, I think I'd go crazy. I can't imagine living in that small a space for an extended period of time. But if you're fine with that I'm sure it would be an amazing experience.

Friends of mine did the great loop in their trawler a few years ago and I asked them how they survived the "close quarters". Prior to buying the trawler and starting their voyage, the couple shared a 6,000 sq ft. house, so obviously it was a huge change in lifestyle. One of the keys for their success was alone time. Once every couple of weeks, when they were planning on being in port somewhere, they would book a hotel room in that port. One of them would spend the night in the hotel, the other on the boat. They stayed apart from each other for a minimum of 24 hours and each planned solo adventures (or quiet time) during that day. As much as they loved being together, they loved the total isolation from each other, too.

I thought it was an interesting idea and it sure worked for them!

Today, for 5 months out of the year, we spend 3 days and nights out of every week on our pontoon. We're OK with the limited space, and with a cat, we can even sleep in different bedrooms if we need to - but that hasn't been much of an issue. We just don't need much alone time. After 28 years of marriage, we haven't killed each other, so I think it'll be OK.
