Fellow 'tooners, I recently had my toons cleaned on my 2015 25' Sylvan S3 (250hp Yamaha SHO with 16x17 MerEnertia/3-blade/SS prop). But this time I had a certified crew apply Ceramic Pro to my toons. The intent was to keep them from gunking up so quickly and making them easier to clean moving forward. But once I got her back into the water my top end speed has dropped from 44mph at ~5600rpms down to 37mph. I'm having a hard time believing the ceramic coating would negatively impact performance at all, much less to this extent... but all other variables are the same from before the coating, i.e. weight, weather/water conditions, trim, RPMs, etc.
Anyone out there have before & after experience with ceramic coating toons?
Thanks,
Matt

I read where aircraft coating are roughed up to make them more aerodynamic. I googled hydrodynamics and found this.

Re: Ceramic Pro coating on toons
The difference in speed is just too radical for me to wrap my head around it being coating related.
Since your motor performance appears to be the same, I would be checking for a massive unseen weight gain, like water in a tube(s).
Look at your wake/rooster tail to see if the flow around the transom/pod/lower unit looks like it did before.
Are you verifying the speed with GPS?

Big and ugly but we love our 1999/2000 Crest II DL with a Yamaha F115

It sure would be nice to hear what the OP has found.
