70hp to 115hp performance

#1 Post by QBreen » Mon Aug 27, 2018 7:26 pm

I currently have a 24 dl party barge with full length third toon added. I have a 2001 Suzuki df 70. @ 5600rpm I can get up to about 16mph loaded. If I jumped up to a 115 hp how much performance can I expect to gain? I would love to get a 150 but my boat is not rated for that so 115 is best I could do. I'm just wanting to know if the performance is worth the cost. Thank you

Too many factors to give a really good guess, but my Crest 25' with two tubes and 115 hp:
25 mph with two adults
21 mph with four adults on board while towing a tube (Super Mable) with two more adults and a kid

I would assume that with the third tube, you would be faster than the above

My neighbor has a 24' Tritoon with 115 hp and he claims 30 mph wide open.

Big and ugly but we love our 1999/2000 Crest II DL with a Yamaha F115

If I could pull off 25 that would be fantastic.

my PB 24" 115 maxes at 20 with 4 + and wind just right with 3 tubes you'll see 25 for sure. I can feel the cross-members catching water on mine. Really need to underskin!

My 1993 24ft Pontoon (no strakes) boat did 25mph with a Yamaha 115 fourstroke. My new 22ft tri-toon with the same outboard can do 32 mph lightly loaded. I am repowering this Spring so I can slalom ski with a bunch of people on board.

If it has lifting strakes it should hit 30 mph for sure. For some reason a 115 to 150 in any brand motor is a huge difference. Anywhere from 6 to 8 mph difference easily.

My 22 tritoon which weighs about 500 pounds less than the 24 version does 43 with a 150 Evinrude G2.
