Trolling motor update

#1 Post by Gonefishing » Thu Sep 06, 2018 3:37 pm

While finally got my new Minnkota trolling motor mounted and all set up. Man is it a great investment was a little costly but I think while worth it. When you get old and arms and legs can’t take pulling and tugging the Minnkota ulterra is your answer. It has auto deploy and stow, spot lock and anchor feature all great options. Tried them all out and they all work great. Has a remote so everything can be done from any place on the boat.

What kind of boat do you have and what pound thrust did you buy? Been looking at those things for quite a while now.
I am the guy at the boat ramp that gives you dirty looks when you are a complete idiot and too stupid to know it.

I have a 24 foot excursion with 115 Yamaha. I purchased the 80 pound thrust 24 volt Minnkota ulterra with I pilot. I think it is worth the cost for me that is. Auto deploy n stow with me having one artificial leg and bad knee on the other leg. It’s great. Not to mention the anchor mode and spot lock works great. No more throwing in and pulling up a anchor.

A couple months ago I watched a guy (by himself) launch a bass boat....he backed in and pulled out without getting out of his pickup....went and parked his rig then walked down to the dock, climbed in and took off...impressive.

Are you saying he backed it off the trailer, held position by the ramp, then brought it closer so he could climb in--all by remote? That's awesome! Now I want one!

Yep you can do that. The trolling motor has auto deploy so all you have to do is make sure the motor is plugged in and turned on. Then once in the water using your remote you deploy the trolling motor set the speed and turn it all by remote and drive it to the dock. It’s realy neat. Only thing is you better remember to turn on and plug the motor in or you are going for a swim.

I've looked at the auto deploy and it's an aweome idea, but I have to go to the bow to open my bow gate anyway. Unless I remove the bowgate entirely, it just hasn't been worth the upgrade costs from my old 80# Terrova.

Have to open gate is true. But what I do is open it once and leave it open then I can run my trolling motor all day with no problem or can just shut the gate and raise the trim up or down
