On board power washer

#1 Post by mgarvie » Thu Jan 24, 2019 5:05 pm

I need to be able to wash down the deck while fishing. My furry fishing partner LOVES to roll in the mud and then come share her mud with me on the boat. Is there a small 12v portable power washer someone recommends? Or has anyone use a submersible bilge pump to hang over the railing?

I have the same issue from time to time but never thought about an on board power washer... do you have vinyl or carpet. Ours is vinyl and I usually just end up towing it to a DIY carwash and power washing the heck out of the deck.

I've had the Worx power washer on my boat for the last year. It's not 12V, but it is battery powered and the batteries will hold a charge for at least a couple of months.

Be aware that it's not the same as a gas powered 2000+ PSI power washer. Worx, calls it a "power cleaner". As long as you don't expect it to do too much, you'll be satisfied.

It's designed with about a 15 hose, that you just throw over the side and it does a decent job. Sounds like it would work perfectly for what you want.

I do have a vinyl floor. I camp and fish late into the night and try to wash off the deck every couple hours with a bucket. The bucket is another fun game for her and not much gets clean. I'm thinking low pressure and high volume so I can rinse off the dog and my hands too. Maybe a bilge or live well pump that I can hang from the railing and plug in?

The Worx pump I linked to has an adjustable nozzle so you can do a variety of pressures or a shower setting, too.

It's not a power washer per se, but the pump I have linked below plugs into your 12V outlet and has as much power as your garden hose. Has worked really well for me.

Many bay and off shore boats have as standard wash down pumps. On those glass boats they pick up in the same manner as bait wells do usually on the bottom of the hull. This is not conducive to the aluminum hulls of pontoons however, it could be mounted on the stern of the pontoon as are depth sounders OR it could be portable on placed in the water as with the power washer described earlier.
I have used these most of my life for washing down the decks after fishing all day. They can be found at most marine sites or stores. They are handy as all you need to do is flick a switch and the 12 volts from the boat powers the pump. Or if you have shore power you could just hook a pump to the dock and leave it hooked up with a hose. A 12 volt power source could also be used with a 12 volt pump. There are a lot of options depending on how far you want to go in installing and the set up you have at your site...
