Flying Old Glory

#1 Post by PyroLowe » Thu May 09, 2019 11:48 pm

I was doing some searching and found little or next to nothing in regards to what I'm looking for (as I envision it anyway).

What do you guys use to fly flags from your rigs?

I have seen multiple versions of cheap tiny flag poles that clip here or there but it's not really what I want. I want something robust that could take a beating from a brisk cruise yet not be too intrusive.

I would like to fly a bigger flag if possible. Obviously nothing that would be hanging in the water at idle or anchor, BUT something big enough that is noticeable and makes you proud to see it flying.

I am contemplating adding some electrical emt conduit hangers back-to-back on my ski bar so I dont have to drill anywhere.

So what do you guys/gals do? Any suggestions on a good pole that won't buckle with a good sized flag flying off the back???

Great idea. Be sure and put a light on it at night.

I use a regular flag kit like you would mount on your house. Just need the flag and pole, their mount isn't needed. On my old boat it worked great. 25 mph with a 3x5 flag and no issues. I had it mounted to the inside of the fence. A screw sticking up in the floor held the bottom on the pole and s zip tie at the top of the fence worked great. Haven't figured a mount for the new boat yet but I'll do something similar most likely.

This is what I use. Requires square fence rails, tho. Before this, I tried my anchor light mast. Looked good for a while till it ruined the mast. Then I used a stainless rod holder on my ski bar. I think I like this better.
