New custom table!

#1 Post by steve1313 » Thu Jun 06, 2019 4:08 am

My soon to be son-in-law is a partner is a custom furniture and woodworking company in Montana. They specialize in high end cabinetry and furniture and do some amazing work. Last fall, I visited his shop and told him about the cheap plastic table I had on my boat, and how cool it would be to have a custom wood tabletop instead.

He offered to make me one, although he said it would probably take "awhile" because they were very busy. After waiting nearly 9 months, he finally sent me the finished product. The only info I gave him was the approximate dimension, that I wanted it to be oval, it needed good cupholders that could hold a 30 oz YETI tumbler. He later asked me if I wanted the name of my boat (Serendipity) on the table.

Here's what I had before...

And here's a couple of pics of the new table. The wood is marbled maple and the pictures don't do it justice. The grain is amazing. It's protected with 5 coats of marine varnish. I can't wait to get it mounted on the boat!!

Very nice. You may have started something! Now everyone will want one customized for their boat.

Looks awesome, You did a fantastic job on the edge trim.
What marine varnish did you end up using? I did something similar, nothing that beautiful, I just used pine, but I used spar urethane.
I am the guy at the boat ramp that gives you dirty looks when you are a complete idiot and too stupid to know it.

Thanks for the compliments, although it wasn't me it was my soon to be son-in-law. He used this varnish.
