Spark plug wire lifespan?

#1 Post by mgarvie » Sat Oct 05, 2019 9:04 am

With great sadness I'm getting ready to winterize the boat. I got to wondering......after how many hours should I change my plug wires?

Check your manual, but I suspect it would be based on years, in lieu of hours. Mine are 6 years old and the plugs look to be firing clean, based on a visual inspection. (reported to be 6 years old, but that came from the previous owner.)

Also lifetime is dependent upon cable construction. Wire-conductors are theoretically forever and always last longer than carbon-fiber or carbon-core (but suffer from RF-interference.)
