Radical new prop design
Check out this video about the Sharrow Engineering Prop. I wonder if they make a model specifically for pontoons. Maybe it would give us those few extra MPHs that most of us are looking for. I bet the price is out of reach.

Very interesting, thanks! Found a long test article on it here: https://www.boattest.com/review/sharrow ... ering/3986
Signed up for the early adopter program, says they'll be debuting recreational props sizes in highest demand from that program at the 2020 Miami Boat Show.

Test boat from the article was a 20' Bayliner with Merc 150 loaded to 3450lbs.
Prop 1 - 14-3/4" x 15 stainless three blade "industry favorite"
Prop 2 - 15" x 15 stainless three blade "premium" industry standard
MX-1 - 15" x 15 Sharrow investment cast aluminum
Speed vs MPG
Speed vs RPM (popping up on plane so quick is the reason for the huge difference around 3000 RPM)
I think they have the speed increase percentage numbers backwards on a couple of lines.

Dear Recreational Boaters,
Thank you for joining the Revolution in Propulsion!
By taking the time to fill out our submission form, you will receive news about the revolutionary SHARROW PROPELLER™ for recreational inboard, outboard and I/O vessels and updates on our production timeline.
Just like you, we’re eagerly anticipating our official entrance into the recreational market and with your recent submission, you are now first in line when we are ready to take orders!
Over the past 7+ years, we’ve patiently conducted extensive testing at the University of Michigan’s Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratory* to maximize performance and guarantee results. We’ve also implemented a rigorous in-water test program using manned vessels in lakes, rivers, and bays. Data collected from this extensive research program demonstrated that the SHARROW PROPELLER™ is 9%-15% more efficient than the industry standard Wageningen B-series design, with a wider peak efficiency curve for greater utility over a wide scope of operational ranges. The result, is the first major advancement in propeller technology since the 1930s.
The SHARROW PROPELLER™ is currently available for Custom Inboard, Commercial and Military applications, and we are working quickly to bring it to boating fans in the recreational market as soon as production capacity is fulfilled. By filling out the submission form, you are now guaranteed a first-adopter notification and have secured your spot in line to join the Revolution in Propulsion.
Stay tuned,
Greg Sharrow

Re: Radical new prop design
There’s a curious disparity at that 3000 RPM / 23.7 MPH point. If one compares the MPG claim in the prior graph to the data presented in the chart.... there should be similarly huge difference of comparison in MPG at that point.... YET, no such comparison is supported.
Edit: I found a detailed test report that provides a better look at the data, in a more understandable format (IMO). The MPG improvement is more easily read in the other format, IMO.

Now that's cool! It looks like it could have been pitched up a few inches! Very interesting... It doesn't look like it would take much punishment, looks super thin. But for deep water, it looks like a great prop!

And its aluminum. I think I would ding that thing out of shape pretty quicklyBryden24shp wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 8:28 amNow that's cool! It looks like it could have been pitched up a few inches! Re: Radical new prop design
that is an interesting design. Makes you wonder why more companies haven't tried to create a more efficient design...and I'm sure it has to do with money.

Re: Radical new prop design
Hmmm........ I think I could just reflash my ECM , buy 3 different stainless props to play with, fuel my boat for a decade, and still have enough $ left over for the new H.P. stickers on the cowling lol.
It's a really neat looking prop with good performance, but it's not that neat!

So their website says it's up to 18% more fuel efficient. Let me do some math...……… I currently burn about $200 of fuel per month, for about 7 months, and then maybe another $200 the rest of the year. So total fuel cost for me is about $1600 per year. If I can get that 18% efficiency gain, that means I'll save about $288 per year. The SS version costs $9k, so it pays for itself in only 31 years! What a bargain! I gotta order it NOW!

Re: Radical new prop design
All that being said, if they want to give me a free one, I would be happy to report back here about the life changing nature of this prop. Theres a pretty awesome pontoon ski mirror that's cn machined and looks great too. I'm just not willing to drop that kind of coin.

Re: Radical new prop design
So they originally offered the ss version at $9k and now it's at $2k?? They must have been selling a TON of these props to make the cost go down that much
