For those using non-ethanol gas...

#1 Post by onlybillhere » Mon Mar 02, 2020 7:52 am

Do you add any additives to the gas or just use straight non-ethanol gas? I have an older Mercury 60hp 2 stroke and I add some sea foam every so often but that's about it.

Mine sits for long periods. I still use stabilizer and cleaner products.

Mine has been sitting for the last couple months and I just started it back up yesterday. Typical 2 stroke it didn't want to start up easily but it did start. it ran a little rough and shut off a couple times during idle. I'm chalking that up to it sitting for a bit.

I use the Stabil 360 Marine every tank with ethanol free even when burning through it in the summer. If you buy the quart bottle at Walmart it only adds about seven cents a gallon and keeps the whole fuel system treated along with the gas "fresh" so come what may. Same thing goes in the mower gas and what has become the redheaded stepchild (even though it's EFI) since getting the boat.

You might find this short video very informative. May save you some money as well. However, I do use stabil or something similar if storing gas for a few months.

On the advise here I bought me some Stabil 360 Marine and added it to may tanks. I go through the gas somewhat quickly so I doubt it has time to start breaking down but the Stabil product can't hurt.

Both were just tarted up.
One I bought in 1993 was badged as a Z/28 but was originally a base model 350 two barrel with Powerglide. Back then in south GA people were still knocking the windows out of them and dirt track racing them.
The other I bought just for the body maybe ten years ago and was badged as an SS but was originally a really nicely optioned 307 with manual....paid significantly more ha ha but not too bad.

I did my old one the wrong way....redid a bunch of interior, mechanical, electrical work when I should've done the body first. Bought the other one for the body, swapped all the stuff between the two, and sold my old one as a driver/project. Net price was about the same as doing body and paint but without months of bodyshop jail and probably easier on me.

Very nice. I sold my '49 Pontiac Chieftain sedan coupe deluxe a few years back, the guy that bought it had a couple cars kinda in pieces that he was hoping to get done and said they were rare.....I think maybe a certain model '37 Chevy? Can't recall.

i don't mind when it has to do with gorgeous cars. We were talking about how you'll never see cars of this design ever again. Like no one is going to have a barn find of a 88 chevy chevette and say how wonderful the engineering was or how forward thinking chevy was with that car. just a shame...
