SeaStar Power Assist Steering

#1 Post by bacaruda » Sun Apr 05, 2020 7:11 am

Going to do install in the console for now. 1. Is there anywhere to get 90deg. fittings for the assist pump to run tubes straight up to helm pump? 2. Where did you get and what did you use for the compensating line.3. Also what for the comression ring and collar for the fittings. SeaStar manual is ???????? lacking at best.

THANKS!

Never had the pleasure of installing power assist. Are there any detailed videos on YouTube? I have lots of luck finding random how to info there.

Have you contacted SeaStar?

They have several types of fittings in their catalog starting on page 147.

Here is another source for steering parts that I have used and I am sure there are many others.

Oh, this turned out to be WAY too easy. The unit comes with tube nuts on it with rubber inserts to keep from leaking fluid. All you need are the crush sleeves, voila! LOWE'S in their brass in plumbing ~$2. Now need warmer weather to get in mood, need to replace Clarion too.

Just don't be surprised if you hear hydraulic "groaning" noises when turning the wheel at low RPM. That seems to be a common side effect of the Power Assist. I've got it on my boat and so do others.
