Poll & Thoughts on my idea...Raised Helm Seat

#1 Post by Mosnowman » Mon May 04, 2020 3:38 pm

Can you guys weigh in on these two questions? Thanks in advance for any replies!

1. Is my boat seat just screwed into the wood deck below, or bolted? ( 2021 Harris ) Under skinning prevents me from seeing.

2. I am considering making a platform out of two by fours ( or sixes) and plywood. ( marine grade ) I was thinking then mount the box to the wood deck with L brackets. Final step mount the seat base and pedestal to the plywood to achieve a raised helm.

Am I crazy? I would like to simply find an extension post to make it easier, but can’t seem to find one that gives me the added desired height. Thoughts?

You're over thinking it.

That mount is a tube.

The seat clamps to the tube and is removable.

If I wanted my seat higher, I'd remove the seat, remove the mount, get a longer tube, and voila, raised seat.

This might be different than it is on my toon, but it'd be worth checking to see.

Scroll all the way down to the bottom of this page. They have a slide over pedestal that would probably do exactly what you want it to. All you have to do is remove the seat.

I'm have the same basic tube/flange mount for my bar stool seats on my boat. Does anyone know how the tube attaches to the base? I want to remove mine and shorten them a few inches.

My boat is a couple hours away from here so I can’t check to see if the current tube simply pulls out, or twists out? Does anyone know if these Swivl-eze tubes are welded to the plate or easily removed? How do these slide over pedestals attach? /secure?

only on phone right now. Can you find an install manual or parts manual? Only 2 I have messed with were both different.
1 you bolted down flange and tube had a groove set screws locked in, the other you tightened a bolt from under flange into tube. Then mounted flange
