Does anyone use a shallow water anchor?

#1 Post by onlybillhere » Mon Jul 20, 2020 7:23 am

So I have been looking at either buying or building my own shallow water anchors. Being that we normally are on the river and most places we tend to stop at are shallow water (<5' deep) I would love to be able to stick a couple poles in the water instead of dealing with the big anchors.
Does anyone here have experience with them?
What diameter are you using for?

This is what I use and works great. It even held two pontoons. Folds flat for easy storage.

i do have a box anchor that works well, and i have a Danforth one too but was looking for something I didn't have to set a line out to. We go to many parties that have a lot of people walking around in the river and was trying not to have something in the way.

i think he got his from West Marine or Bass Pro Shops, something like that. I'm more curious if a 3/4" rod would be enough or do I need to go up to the 1" diameter one. Supposedly the 3/4" is good for boats up to 22 feet and I'm at 21'.

Craig..Be my guest... I don't remember off hand the size of the "brackets" I got.. but I just went to a hardware store and got them.. The pole(s) are 10 feet long.. each pole comes in two 5 feet sections and they just screw together like those old time billiards / pool sticks. Since each pole breaks down into five foot sections, that makes it nice for storage...they're made out of fiberglass and work really well, I bought the poles from Cabella's... the Item: IK-023810 wow, they've gone up in price, I didn't pay anywhere near what they're asking for them now, but I'm sure there's other places that sell them, and other similar shallow water anchor poles.
