1988 Lowe shakedown cruise

#1 Post by John Pen » Tue Jul 21, 2020 9:09 pm

Took our new to us 1988 18ft Lowe pontoon with a 1995 30hp mariner on its first trip as new owners.
The good
it certainly met our expectations. We figured it wouldn’t be speedy or quick, which it wasn’t, but it started every time and didn’t sink, so all in all, a good day. The motor has some type of problem, in that when you advance the throttle, it seems to take a few seconds to respond. Once under power, ran good
The bad
Now we want a bigger one with a bigger motor !
The ugly...
Broke a trailer spring on the way home about 35 min from home on the Thruway. Managed to get it off the highway and in to a lot my friend owns, but destroyed a tire. Just another chore now...

All in all, a good trip and my wife is hooked on pontoons,,lol

Congrats on the shakedown! I remember that feeling of relief when you get it back in and nothing seems to be wet that shouldn't be!

Figuring you're about halfway through your season (in NY), maybe enjoy the hell out of it this year and decide if you truly want a newer boat, or maybe just a bit more horsepower and some luxuries.

Post some pics.
