I was recently given a 3-place "floating couch" that I used for the first time during family time the week following 7/4.
I tied a loop in the center of a length of nylon rope, then tied the ends to the lift eye on each log--making sure it was too short to reach the prop.
Is this my only option on an older 'toon that was never meant to pull a float or a skier?

So for an older boat that doesn't have a tower are the lift eyes on the ends of the floats the only/best place to attach?

Yes...search for a Y Harness or make your own. Here is an example:

You will likely get spray since the tow point is so low. If you do, get one of these:

Re: Where/how do I attach a line for a towable?
I'm fully convinced the TurboSwing is the BEST way to attach a towable. It guarantees you're attaching to the strongest part of the boat, it also lifts the rope out of the water while allowing it to swing side to side, and keeps it away from the prop.

That just might be the most overpriced curtain rod ever sold.
If it really works that well it's begging to be copied as a DIY project...

It would be an easy DIY project. All you need is some heavy duty thick walled 1" 316 Stainless steel pipe, some quarter inch 316 stainless steel plate, a pulley, and a few stainless nuts and bolts. Oh yeah, a CNC cutting machine and a tube bender!
I don't mind paying for something that's well engineered and does a great job for the purpose it was designed for. And it's not like it's thousands of dollars. It's about $700 depending on what size you need. Same as a couple of boxes of good cigars and a great bottle of scotch!
