Water Pump Impeller

#1 Post by Capt Sully » Thu Aug 27, 2020 3:33 pm

I have a 90hp Yamaha and when I start it the water doesn't flow out. It's been sitting for a year and has 36hrs on the motor. Do you think the rubber water impeller has broken apart ? The impeller is in the lower shaft, I think ??

First try cleaning the proof tubing path, starting at the outlet end.

Mine sat for 3-1/2 years and the impeller was a little stiff but still fully functional. I highly doubt that the impeller disintegrated so badly that you get zero flow in that time frame. I used a piece of weed eater line and a touch of carb cleaner to ream it out a bit. Once I got a little bit flow, it took off.

Dirt dobbers love to fill up the pee hole.

If you're the original owner and you haven't run the engine without water, the chances of you needing a new impeller is nil. Yamaha impellers are really tough and long lasting.

Sometimes it takes a 30 seconds or longer for the water to flow out of the hole.

Kinda what I was thinking. He's from GA and I am too....those things don't waste any time. Gotta be careful taking a crap outdoors because those things will plug your b-hole before you can get your pants up.

Mud dobbers! I have this in my tool compartment! Weed eater string long enough to run the whole tube.

On my Honda the hose came off the fitting.
Was here several years ago as RJF. Couldn’t find a way to revive that one so started new.
