Cover support

#1 Post by curtiscapk » Mon Oct 05, 2020 12:34 pm

So I've been dealing with different ways to support my cover. Everyone has kind of worked or kinda failed. I was using 2x4's and cover poles last. This usually worked but strong enough winds would knock them over. Resulting in torn cover.

I came up with what I hope is the final solution. I believe bits and pieces I got from different posts here. I used electrical conduit T's and brackets. I got the frame up but ran out of time to put the cover on. We're going out for a tree color run Saturday and no rain in the forecast.
Having the brackets on all three rails should keep fore and aft movement to nothing. It seemed to take quite a bit of weight from me pushing on the top of frame. I'm close enough to boat now I can check it after any big rain or snow storm.

Let me know what you think...

nice! i did almost the same exact thing, I used pvc also for my cover but my cover is designed for an rv so it's a little heavier, combine that with the heat here in Florida and it didn't take long for the pvc to start sagging. I had some metal conduit that I used instead, bent it, and works great.

This is what I did with 2x4's... hopefully new support stays up better with no rips!

Craig, that new cover support system you put on your boat is sweet.. looks like it took a bit of work and I'm assuming you would just leave all the attached pvc right where it is when you take the boat out.. Don't think I'd want to take it all apart everytime I wanted to take the boat out... looks good. Def. better than the poles and 2x4's you were using...

Interesting idea. I would think that it would do the job.

yep plan is to pop one pole at the T of each side and leave all poles at storage spot then reassemble when we return. Before we would put the cover on first then do the 2x4's. The idea now is support first then cover. We'll see how it goes Saturday... :donno

Check the placard. I think the max you'd be rated for is 6.
