Anyone with experience with Free Standing Lifts/Canopies

#1 Post by steve1313 » Tue Nov 03, 2020 4:12 am

I'm in the process of buying a lot at the lake that comes with a deeded, floating slip. I immediately plan to add a free standing vertical lift with a canopy. Does anybody have an experience and/or any comments or recommendations? I'm looking for something like this:

I don't have any "issues". I was just wondering if anybody has any experience of history with these type of lifts. I'm particularly interested in the canopy/cover and the best way to extend the side curtains to give the boat more protection.

Most of the ones I have seen have the side curtains outside the support posts and have a pipe running through the bottom (parallel with the water) that has some weight. I have seen some where the side curtain is made of mesh material as well. If you don't go with mesh, I would mount it to the lift frame and not zippered/snapped onto the bottom of the existing canopy because those side curtains can be heavy (depending on the material).

A decent local canvas shop would make you some or lots of places to order online.

I guess biggest issues are can you attach to lake bottom legally w/ or w/o a permit? We can't here.

Also how wide is your slip?will the lift fit and allow boat between lift beams? My deeded slip is like 106 inches or so (got about 6 or 8 inches per side)

I have a 24’ Tri toon, and a Hewitt lift with canopy. Works great. Electric winch, I can be on the water in just a few minutes. I don’t have side screens, really don’t need them in NY state, as our season is short.

My lake definitely allows them to rest on the bottom of the lake (they don't actually "attach"). As far as width, the lift I'm getting is 108" wide and my slip is 117" wide, so everything will fit.

I think I've decided to go with a setup by Shorestation, with the automated side curtains.
