2020 was a bad year for damaged equiptment

#1 Post by fiddlebick » Thu Dec 31, 2020 11:21 am

Here's my 2020 damage totals for the year of boating.
1. Early spring walkaround the trailer revealed a completely toasted bearing and spindle damage. New spindle, new hub and brake rotor, new bearings (2 sets).
2. Lost a tire off the rim completely on the way to the river. New rim and tire, roadside assistance fee.
3. Hit a log on the ohio late summer. Broke a big chunk from the cav plate. Insurance paid 1200 for repair, and I added 600 to that payment and sold my old lower unit to the marine repair shop and this got me a new factory lower unit. No pics of the lower unit damage. I had disappearing deductibles from Progressive, so I was only out the 600 on a 2200 lower unit price.

Oh, I did find a pic of the lower unit damage. Thought I had erased it. Anyway I hope everybody has a blessed and safe new year, and no boating damage for me!!

Like they're all saying, 2021 has to be a better year.

I didn't have enough air in a tire, and ran over a curb at the boat ramp. Bent the wheel and ruined the tire. Fortunately we had ratcheting nylon straps that could be used to tie up the axle long enough to get 10 miles home.

Those lower unit repairs can be extremely expensive. We're fortunate that our lake is extremely deep and relatively clean of floating debris.

Good luck to you in 2021.
