Rare Bimini?

#1 Post by ubugray » Sun Jun 06, 2021 5:24 am

I have 2012 Sweetwater SW1880C3 that I bought new, actually ordered in 2011. The bimini is a 3 bow square 1 1/4" frame. The canvas is shot and needs to be replaced. I was told by my dealer that SW only stocks replacement canvases back to 2017. I've scoured the web looking for a company that sells a 6Lx8W canvas with zippers for this frame - no go. If I click a square tube link, I get sent to 4-bow canvases. All of the 3-bow canvases I have found are threaded onto round tubes. I love that SW installed a heculan frame on my pontoon, shows they care about quality. But finding a replacement canopy has been frustrating.

Any ideas about who supplied the bimini to SW back then?

Anyone else with the same frame found a replacement canvas?

Thanks in advance!

Does your canvas have any manufacturer tags on it? Our 2020 Godfrey has these, may be a good place to start. Perhaps they made the canvas back in 2011 also?

Dowco lists two for a 2014 Godfrey. They are easy to work with, I had to have them repair the boot on my G3. You could call or email them with what you have and see if they make one for it:

I had a 2017 SW but don't know who manufactured the top. I have a picture of the sticker that I took in case it fell off that has the customer number, part, etc but it does not have the manufacturer info. I think maybe Carver made them? Godfrey should at least be able to tell you that much.

Here's a SW 3 bow on ebay....

You may have some custom manufacturers in your area that could help too. Especially if you have your worn out bimini they could use as a pattern. I've currently got our bimini in for patching cause a squirrel decided that it would make a good place to spend the winter. 🤬

As mentioned above, a local shop may give you better service, quality, and fit and probably a better price??
I am the guy at the boat ramp that gives you dirty looks when you are a complete idiot and too stupid to know it.

That’s been my experience as well.

A local shop has our tri-toon right now making a custom second Bimini top for the front.

In the past; I’ve had local makers come to my boat at my dock and take measurements to make a new skin. In a few days, they’d return and put the new skin on the boat. It doesn’t get much easier than that...
