2016 SLS3

#1 Post by Gogo » Thu Jun 10, 2021 1:55 pm

I have a 2016 Starcraft SLS3 with Merc 150 Fourstroke. I am the original owner. The first year (2017) that I had it everything was good. Original prop was a Spitfire CT 14x14 4 blade aluminum prop(8m00884493). 5600rpm WOT 36 miles per hour. Went into storage winter 2017/2018. Summer of 2018 went back in the water and with the same prop I would hit the rev limit at 6000 when trimmed, cut trim alittle and all is good. But was not happening the first season. Complained to the dealer and he suggested going to a 15x15 prop. So we did. The issues stopped but lost quite a bit on the mph +\- 6-8 mph.
We dealt with it.
This year I put the exact same prop on as the original Spitfire just to see if anything has changed. Back to the same issue. Any idea why this issue arose? Why the 14 4 blade won’t work? Any suggestions?
I love my Tritoon but would like the speed and performance when I first got it. Please help

I Will check the hub. But it’s just weird because it was not happening with the 1515 prop

Checked for Possible Spun hub. That’s not the issue. Back at square one.

Most dealers put stainless steel propellers on 150 hp boats, and the standard of the industry for your boat would be a Mercury Enertia prop in either a 14 pitch or a 15 pitch. It's as good as propellers get for pontoons.

I have a Yamaha F150, and I use Yamaha's 15 pitch Reliance stainless propeller which is comparable to the Mercury Enertia.

4 blade propellers are more often seen on bass boats that have incredible horsepower to spare.

The real question that you already asked is: What happened?

It is hard for me to envision what changed while the boat was in storage?
