Under front deck ladder

#1 Post by Kytoon » Sun Jun 27, 2021 10:47 am

Got 1 of those 5 steps pontoon ladders from pontoon stuff. It doesn't hang at 90" It's more like 45. Anyone else have one. If so does your ladder hang at 90'. Just wondering if i got a defective ladder.

The ladder itself hits the edge of the tracks thinking this has to be defect, going to cause ladder to bend etc.

I’d say that’s not right; as long as the ladder hitting the floor isn’t what stops it from hanging down at 90 degrees from the deck. It does look like a very long ladder…

They don't hang at 90 degrees, I would guess its more like 60 degrees, taking a guess there. Ours actually broke in like year 4 after we got it, but we took it to a local welder who reinforced it differently and its been flawless.

Thanks all! I sent it back. It was off. You can see in the "website photo" the ladder rest on the angle on the bottom cross member. Some what. Well that makes sense as it gives it support to not flip back. Well the one I had did not sit flat on the bottom cross member. The ladder was hitting the top of the channel and that would either bend the ladder so that it would not go in or bend the channel. Either way it was problem.

Yep, ours sits on the flats....it's awesome. Get a "remove before flight" warning flag and clip it on the steering wheel every time you deploy the ladder since motoring off when it is down would end badly.

I just want to comment about these ladders from Pontoon Stuff. These are much better built than others out there. They are a little longer which is really nice on my Triton, and they have thicker metal and much better welds. My steps have welds under the entire end of each step. One of my neighbors just had his top step break off. It was basically just tac welded in 2 spots on each end of the step. I have seen many other brands at our sandbar with weld repairs done. Mine supports my 265 lbs easily.
Sorry that the OP got a bad one. Someone's measurements were off when they built that one.
