A month ago the single cylinder tilt/trim unit on my outboard was a little hesitant but once it started to move it lifted the outboard at the normal speed. It's quickly gotten worse to the point that I have to pull up on the cover just to get the motor to lift completely out of the water. There is no leak around the shaft, it's not dripping in the water. There is fluid up to the fill screw.
I assume the pump or ram has an internal leak.
Do you think if I drained it and replace the fluid with thicker oil that it would work pretty normal for the rest of the season? The season in Michigan is so short I hate to pull the boat out of the water to service this. I only need it to last until October.

Have you greased all the fittings on your outboard lately? If not; that should speed things up.
