First Run of the Year

#1 Post by Rick McC. » Fri Apr 15, 2022 8:01 pm

Well, I busted my ass cleaning the tri-toon and getting it back in the water Wednesday; so the wife decided that we should cruise up the coast from Weeki Wachee to Homosassa yesterday. All in all it was a nice 70+ mile ride, and the trip back south that afternoon was surprisingly smooth; sea breeze and all.

For this run; I go four miles out into the Gulf, from Bayport, then run 12.75 miles just a bit west of north to the Homosassa channel. From there, it’s about a 10 mile run inshore and up the Homosassa River to K.C. Crumps on the river. The Riverhaven Marina is immediately west of Crumps, so an easy refuel is available before heading back out.

Not being familiar with the area, I checked out the map. Wow, looks like a great run!

It is Mark, but there’re some nice islands much closer for just hanging out, and even semi-offshore rock piles that’ll provide the occasional grouper for supper; while staying closer to home. :thumbsup

Sure, and I get that - but that cruise sounds like a whole lot of cool sightseeing.

Looks like a great way to spend the day - cruising along, enjoying the weather and the day. Good for you!

Looks like you had a good day.

Shoot.

A bad day on the water beats a good day anywhere else.

Glad y’all like it!

There’s a Hooters (and other places, too) south from us on the Pithlachascottie River in Pasco County. It’s about the same distance run (65-70 mile R/T), but the ‘Cootie River run is mostly an open-gulf run, with just a short distance run up the river compared to the Homosassa run.

I don't know about anyone else but it seems like we're getting an earlier summer this year thank God. It wasn't warm enough for us to get out in the water until Memorial Day last year. This year we've been out twice for a total of seven days on the water....there's a difference between being warm enough to go out and warm enough to go out with the dogs. I only get every other weekend off so if I miss one trip that means I'm off the lake for practically a month.
