Think it would be okay if we could keep it in an advertising topic or sections, and not have it show up under view new post so one would have to click on the advertising topic knowing that was what you would see. Just a suggestion, don't feel strongly pro or con.

k i have a couple of ? first who is paying to keep the site up. second who ever is paying to keep the site up how old is the equipment if renting what about storage space we all love to post pics they do take some space. k the formalities come into play first we need to draw up a contract that covers all of our ? conserns. If it was up to me i would let them do it only in a banner style not popups i hate popups and say at the top of the welcome page not in the posts them selves. just a flashing banner they have only control over that not the forum its self just the banner. i think if thats the case we should let them do it. also depends on how much they want to pay we can inturn sell space on that banner.

Agree with everyone else that I have no problems with a mfr advertising on the site as long as they understand the rules up front. I suggest that you have them sign a document that clearly stipulates that they have no control over content and, in the situation where someone posts a complaint or criticism, that they will be bound by the rules regarding flaming. I have been on other sites where this has happened and the moderator usually has to step in to control the issue. The mfr should clearly understand what their advertising dollar get them.

This has been a great site and, based on the desire of a mfr to advertise on it, it has a great deal of influence on what brand is purchased.

Whatever you do with them, get it in writing.

My 2 cents.
Jeff

I agree with most of you, no say in content, banner only, NO POPUPS, if money is involved Mike gets to decide, I would recommend donating to ACORN. :biggrin2

I say no. When money comes into play, peoples mind change. I like opinions and information from real users (actual owners) not from paid PR vendors.

I don't think someone's ads here, is going to change anyone's views, Well maybe if they offer me a bunch of money, but would they do that, nobody listens to me.

Hi I'm Herb and I say we make the it the pontoon of choice for the forum, and then you tell me to get fucked, I don't know what I'm talking about.

We still going to be the same people with opinions as ever, and what works for one guy, the next doesn't need or like.

That's what pissed me off at PDB, you know they were getting the goodies to try and could have members try them out instead of running the company's ad word for word.

It would be nice if we could get new items out to members to try, and if it's a great ideal then we can buy it or not, but the company's going to know if we think it's a P.O.S we going to say it so it better be great.

If we got money to get a few get together's set up, but then we know most would want it in BMR's toon during canal days :nana :nana :nana , hell I be willing to go just to hold spare camera's :tofunny

It wouldnt bother me...
Heck if it helps flip the bill for the site, even better!

Although i would caution to make sure you dont get stuck into something you can get out of or control.

Also, i cant see em liking some of the pics and politics... Although I dig em!! :thumbsup :nutkick
But if they dont care about that, then go for it.. :)

OK, if they send me a new boat I get to keep or sell on ebay then I'll agree it's a good idea. :) :) :)

Just please keep control of it. I would hate to see this site altered in any way due to outside influence.

In that case, give all the advertising revenue to me and I'll hire strippers for y'all. Hiring strippers for 4 days straight ain't cheap I'm sure. Especially that brunette from 08. :rofl

Make sure you have the provision to drop them for any reason if they do not measure up. If a manufacturer is selling a bad product or poor service do you want to be guilty by association. If you have no means to discriminate between reputable manufacturers and the rest then you may see some legal action when you try to get rid of them. Just a thought to CYA.

I have not been here very long but I would really hate to see a knowledge (and B.S.) resource as good as this one become controlled by outside influences.
