Found results from an electrical fire.

#1 Post by Marineengineer » Sun Dec 13, 2009 7:27 am

Having some electrical problems. Pulled the aluminum skin from the bottom of the boat, and "Merry Christmas"!! looks like Rube Goldberg's son has worked on the electrical system. I work on ships as an Engineer, and we never splice a wire 5 times in 5 feet. Found scorch marks when two wire shorted out. Looks like I am going to rewire the boat first. Was hoping to go out on the river today, but no lights is just asking for a ticket. :rofl So looks like :drink and wiring to day. At least I am not dealing with the snow :nana . Merry Christmas!!!!!! :biggrin2

I'm curious. Was this wiring from the factory?

I work on trucks for a living and I am always running into electrical that has been spliced and butchered. There are a lot of hacks out there who do not care or just dont know how to do it correctly but do it any way. You are best to do just what you said and rewire it. Otherwise you will be chasing problems forever.

Is this the 'Original Wiring'? Man I hope not. The cable that shorted out was for the trolling motor plug on the bow. It runs from the battery to the Plug. Unfortunately, as there are other choped up wiring under the deck, I do not know how this damage occured. The short was at a crimped connection under the console which took out everything else. No worries, I can fix it. If I replaced it, I fixed it, Right? :drink4
