"I don't know why they let them sit and get so dirty."

Where do you live?
Drive by one of our fearless leader supporters neighborhood's and see what they look like. Get the Idea? They don't care it's just a boat or a car, house or a child. Someone else will worry about it or clean it or just take care of it for me.

But these are rental on the base, I guess things have went down hill since I grew up on base or been in service, they use to keep things clean.

Even the auto hobby shop was spotless and you made sure it was that way when you were done or you wouldn't be back.

I'm pretty sure the Crane IN ones are the old rentals. Every time I've been down to the marina the rentals are spotless.

Haven't been able to verify that yet though. Maybe I'll take a drive during lunch.

I live in a neighborhood of fearless leader supporters and there are lots of nice toons here.

Finally made it down there. Yep they are the old rentals. The reality is even worse than the pictures though, all carpet and furniture beyond repair. They may have some value for the aluminum or as a total rebuild. I didn't check on the motors.

In my experience, when the decking is shot the toons will be done soon too. Ten-twenty years of galvanic corrosion seems like the norm to me. That is why I would only get a pontoon made of fiberglass.

depends who you are talking about?

Me, each pontoon that I have worked on, when the decking is bad (in 10-20 years depending on storage) then the pontoons are usually in bad shape so they are not worth putting the thousand or so dollars into with the decking and carpet.

FOr the others...I can not say.

It's all about upkeep/maintenance. My Starcaft v-hull is 42 years old this year...still going strong despite being used it's entire life in saltwater.
