help please... aloha or sunchaser????

#1 Post by big johnson » Sun Jan 10, 2010 8:13 pm

looking for a little advice or info.. i am looking to purchase a used 20 pontoon and have come across 2 that have my eye on, and within a $1000. 00 bucks of each other. one is a 2008 , 20 foot sunchaser w / 60 hp. 4 stoke yammi with a alum. single axle the other is a 2007 aloha 210 family w/ 50 hp. 4 stroke yammi and a single axle galv. trailer, both have same options ie. stereo, bimini top, mooring cover. boarding ladder... my main concern is build quality as i plan to take out on st. johns river and intracoastal waters in northeast florida, dont want something thats gonna rattle apart. speed is not a major concern but i do wanna " get there " at some point with my wife and 2 young boys aboard... i am kinda leaning toward the aloha ( though it has a smaller engine and galv. trailer and is more $$$ ... but what do you guys think...???? thanks for all your help and opinions :) tom

Is the Sunchaser a G3 product. The Aloha is a old brand boat that have a good sturdy product. I think either will give you good service and I would say go with the one that grabs you the most.
Good luck and pics are required

Either one I agree, and if you get up to the top of the St John's watch out for barges.

Texasboy had his brand new pontoon 3 rd time out, got stuffed coming off a wave threw off one of the barge and bent some metal and threw 2 out of the three cell phones off the dash and in the water.

No one was hurt bad, but they learned to give the barges a wide berth

I would probably go with the smaller one with the bigger engine.

You also may want to talk with a guy here named Denny B, he works for a pontoon company and might be able to get you a better price on a better toon???

See this post and shoot him an email...

Look under the deck at the cross members-you will see why I like Alohas. Unless you want it strictly for fishing always go for the longest boat-they float higher in the water and are easier to push.

I agree with fishmor; the Aloha is a SOLID boat, look at the welds. And it is all welded, no bolts to get loose.
But I'm a bit biased, I had nothing ever go wrong with mine except a trim gauge that sent south.
