What do you think?

#1 Post by lakerunner » Fri Jan 15, 2010 8:36 pm

I am looking at this new Sylvan pontoon . It is the 8522 FNC. The boat is an 08 never left the showroom and looks like it was just built. It has a 90 E-Tec, Full cover, tandem trailer w/brakes. Dealer priced it at $26,200.00. The motor is new 2010

That looks like a nice boat. I think if it were I looking I would want to go with more motor. The rating was 150 h.p. so 90 is going to be a touch short of what you need to acheave the full potential of the toons.

Looks like a nice boat but boy have the prices gone up on toons in the last 3 to 5 years.

Looks like a nice boat, yea I think I like it.

The only difference between 08 and 2010 models are the logs. The 08 has regular logs not the performance ones. He said the 90 would run the boat around 23 and thats what the 90 on my regency does.

Nice looking floor plan on the toon.. While I'm new when it comes to owning a pontoon boat I agree with the other gentleman, more motor if you can, but I realize the motor is the biggest part of the cost of the boat. From what I understand, the "general" rule of thumb is put on the largest motor your boat is rated for. How long is your boat? I just recently bought a Bennington 20 footer with 25" pontoons and the largest rated h.p. for that boat was only a 60 in a 4 stroke. However I ordered it with a 75 4 stroke and it's fine with that on there. Noticed the boat you're considering has chaise lounges up front and fishing chairs in the rear. What type of flooring / decking do you have in the rear? Might want to consider a vinyl decking in the rear, just so you dont get fish bait, etc. on your carpet. Ordered our toon with vinyl decking thru out ( surprisingly to me, it cost more than carpet ) it's beige in color and has a slightly "course" texture to it which is great so it's not slippery. Plus you can just hose it off. Good luck with your puchase. Sure wish it would get up to about 75 soon so me and momma can go boatin....

I googled this boat to try to find any 08, 09 or 10 and get an asking price but I couldn't find one (found the boat but none with a price), so nothing to compare this price too. What is the list price for the boat with a 90 hp?

In my gut it seems like a high price for an '08. Granted it's new and the motor is a '10 model but it still seems high to me. Unless this price is a considerable discount from the list price I would keep shopping.

I think they are offering $1000 rebates on the '10 models. You might ask them for that even though you're buying an '08.

90 is my preference on a toon. enough power to go and cheep to feed.

The fishing area is all vinyl with a wash down pump

Same here I couldn't find much on the boat. The list he told me was $29860.00. Sounds a bit high to me also but it is one hell of a quality boat. It is built by Smoker Craft. I was sitting next to a South Bay that was 34 something with a 115 Yammy 4stk. All I was able to find on rebates was on performance toons

"Same here I couldn't find much on the boat."

This is a big problem with boat, cars and trucks on the net. The manufacture forgets we who have owned boats don't care about the deluxe cup holders and want to know more about other things. There are always open questions until you can actually take the thing out and try it. The dealers don't usually have much of a clue either. It's a tough sell when you can't find all the info that you need to make a good decision. It looks like a nice boat though I don't have a clue what it is worth in todays money, as I have not shopped for any boats in a few years.

There's a reason it's still in stock! I would search further, but, if it fits your needs and budget, buy it and enjoy! :2cents
