I have this really really crazy idea that just might work.
I have a class c motorhome. Since I've seen similar things done, I kind of think it could happen.
Or maybe not.
I've tried looking around for formulas on buoyancy of pontoons. Most of which I have found are not very helpful.
So I figured I'd ask here. I know the basics. I need to know what I'm looking at in the way of a way of a pair of pontoons that would hold 16,000 pounds. 8,000 per.
The wheel base on the motorhome is roughly 20 feet, overall length 28 feet. So I figure 40 foot pontoons should do nicely.
So if I build the pontoons with a width of 16 inches or maybe 20 inches, a length of 40 feet, what depth would I need to make it all work right?
At half immersion.
Also, would there be any benefits of filling the pontoons with expanding foam?
Thanks for any positive information.

Should you decide to attempt this mission beware to construct boat wide enough so you can manage to exit vehicle and balance weight equally on toons. This link provides the needed info. for safe weight limits for various size pontoons. http://u-fabboats.com/buildaboat/weightcap.pdf

Should you decide to attempt this, I WANT TO SEE THE PICTURES OF YOUR FIRST SEA TRIAL!
That sounds like a really fun project and a great way to sink a class C!!
How do you plan to propel it?
