Sony Remote Commander??

#1 Post by jafo9 » Fri Mar 12, 2010 3:31 pm

I interested in hearing from any one who has experience with the sony remote commander. i want to add one to my current setup but i specifically need to know what the display shows and i haven't been able to find the answer. what i need is for the song name to appear. i want to be able to browse my songs on my ipod that is connected to the head unit via usb and select a song by name just like on the head unit. thanks.

I'm assuming this is the Sony unit you're inquiring about.

The Remote Commander allows you to keep your head unit in a dry location, while controlling it from the bridge or backseat. This remote has a unique easy-to-use splashproof design and is compatible with head units equipped with "remote in". It's 21/2" dia. provides endless mounting possibilities.
If it is it appears you'd be out of luck as far as song title display.

I have a Sony Remote Commander on my unit. It allows me to access the radio (including Sirius), CD, and Ipod. Mine does have a display and you can select what you see much like you would on an XM or Sirius radio (station, song, artist, etc.) Generally I like it except that it does not allow you to select playlists from the ipod only artist or album. I assume that later models allow you to select playlists. BTW, I can select a playlist from the head unit but not the remote commander.

below is my head unit and the remote i want to buy. on the headunit, i can drill down to the playlist i want, but then if i want to select a song, it makes me select from the entire library. my solution is to buy a dedicated ipod shuffle or nano and just have the one playlist on it for the boat (about 3GB). that way i can select songs from the head unit without having to wade through the jazz, sinatra, etc. that no one else wants to listen to.

i was hoping that the same info (although less characters) would appear on the readout on the remote as the head unit. is this true? thanks.
