Tarnish

#1 Post by Ghost Rider » Sat Apr 03, 2010 5:29 am

Took the father inlaws boat out of storage yesterday and found all the Stainless in the back of the boat tarnished bad. The boat is only a year old and was stored indoors all winter. What would cause this to happen so fast.

if the parts really are ss rather than aluminum, they were probably not manufactured correctly. some things will tarnish stainless steel, like anti-seize lubricant and i think phosphoric acid. but i doubt anyone got that stuff on there, so you're left with defective ss. if they're aluminum it's a different story. for instance, if you wipe an acidic cleaner onto anodized aluminum trim, it will look pretty bad.

Try using metal or chrome polish to see it it would brighten it up.
