Trim Question
Hello,
First I would like to say hello. I am new here. And, I am new to boating completely. We picked up a used '02 Lowe TR220 pontoon with Yamaha 90 2 stroke. I will likely have tons of questions over the next few weeks if you all can stand it..
First, a question on the trim. The electric trim works in that it raises and lowers the engine fine. However, I noticed that when raises, it slowly slips to full low position. Do I need to replace the trim motor, or is anything else to check first.
Thanks,
Gary

Re: Trim Question
Oh my God, you know how much that's cost, just kidding you have somthing leaking down, maybe just a o-ring or a valve leaking down.
Might as well service the unit and get it out of the way.
OH and WELCOME glad to have you with us.

Re: Trim Question
Would the instructions for serving the power trim unit be in the engine service manual? I have one coming. If not, could you elaborate what servicing it would need. Thanks.

It should be in your service manual. It's in mine.Venturous wrote:Would the instructions for serving the power trim unit be in the engine service manual? I have one coming. If not, could you elaborate what servicing it would need. Thanks.
I did find this for you.

Power Trim and Tilt Pump Problems
If your power Trim and Trim Motor is working fine but the engine or drive unit won't stay Trimmed or bleeds down when in the up position, you most likely have a problem with the Hydraulic pump or Valve Body assembly. In that case it can be removed and rebuilt by a qualified repair facility. Replace the power Trim and Tilt hydraulic pump unit and fill the reservoir with the correct Power Tilt and Trim Fluid per your owner's manual. Generally, Transmission fluid is not recommended. It can be hard on some seals due to the high amount of detergents. Most power Trim and Tilt units will purge the air from the system just by running the engine or sterndrive up and down two or three times with the vent plug loose.

Well doc.... if your lower unit is having the same problem, Take two of these and spend more time in the NHB section.I noticed that when raises, it slowly slips to full low position.

Re: Trim Question
You could at least have it up for four hours before it goes down.
