2018 Bennington - No Hour Meter!

#1 Post by dgreene62 » Sun May 20, 2018 7:10 pm

Hey guys, I'm about to purchase a new 2018 Bennington 22 SSRX but I've noticed a couple things that I'm a little disappointed in and would like to know if it's a mistake or if some of these boats really don't have this stuff.

I realized that the boat I've picked out doesn't have an hour meter on the tachometer on the dash. Most other models I've seen on websites and in person have a digital section on the bottom of the Tachometer for hour meter. Bennington's website is not very helpful on this, but when I read the standard features on some dealers sites on the boats, Hour Meter, is most always mentioned. Should I demand this have an hour meter or just let it pass and try to add an aftermarket one?

Also, I'm a little disappointed that there only 3 speakers in the boat with the basic Kicker stereo(2 in front and 1 in console, NONE in rear). Most other Benningtons I'm seeing have 4 (2 front, 2 rear).

Do you think I'm getting a mid-year model that's drummed down or is this normal for some to not have these things?

I don’t have a Bennington, but I also was disappointed when I found out mine didn’t have an hour meter. I think I needed to purchase the next line up to get one. I bought an aftermarket one for about $10 - $12, and attached it under the engine cowling to a spark plug wire. I could have run it outside I believe, but just attached it inside and will remove the cowling periodically to check it. They are supposed to last around three years before having to replace them.

My wife says I always have buyer's remorse for a bit after I've committed to something and continue to research to make absolutely sure I've left nothing out. She's probably right and I need to let it go as I know I can't get every option without spending a fortune. I looked back at the picture I took on my phone of the spec sign they had sitting on the boat and it states "hour meter". I know they are going to say that is just a standard sign they put on them but I'm going to have that discussion. I just hate the thought of spending over $40k for a boat and then have to add something so basic as an hour meter.

My speedometer is on the Garmin Striker 4, which I find odd and place down to right of steering wheel but I'm not concerned about speeding so I can deal with that. :biggrin2
Come to find out I texted the dealer and there IS an hour meter on the boat. Salesman said there was not when I asked, but I texted back today telling them I was concerned and WA-LA it is actually made into the tachometer. My bad for not looking more closely.

The placement of the GPS is about the only negative thing I've really noticed about the Bennington. I have it on my short list for my next boat, along with Veranda. On either boat, I'd probably get the SIMRAD. On the Veranda, it is placed at the top of the console -- much easier to see when I'm wanting to look at the map and my location. Having to look down to see this information, just seems inconvenient to me.

Glad to hear you are indeed getting a tach. And congrats on the new boat. Unfortunately, I'm still another year or so away from getting my next boat. But I have been doing a ton of research to find the perfect boat for me.

I almost went with another model that was $2k higher and had the extended rear deck and raised helm and different console and the GPS was mounted in a better place. I didn't like the interior color and decided the one we picked was fine. Gonna put some LED lights in it and underdeck and make it mine. :lol3

My bennington didn't come with an hour meter.. but then again when I bought my benny it wasn't 40K. Honestly I don't miss it. Plus, if you want, when you have your boat serviced every year they can download the info and tell you how many hours you've run up. btw, congratulations on the new Benny... post pics when you can.
