New boat is in the water on Lake Conroe!!!

#1 Post by Nighthunter » Thu Apr 07, 2011 3:45 pm

Well, we finally did it. Boat has been bought and is in the water. Still plan to install a Minn Kota 101 us2/ i piolt and a Humminbird 1198 si. We got a great deal on this boat and will introduce the Grandkids to it this Saturday for the first time. I knew the PTX system was good, but I had no idea just how good until I drove it! I had no idea a pontoon boat could make a 180 degree turn at 45 mph and do it within the width of a 2 lane highway!!! This boat is smooooooooooooth!!!

Tried to post all pics. Some worked and others didn't. This boat has a Volvo Penta 4.3 GXI with counter rotating props, which I thought was cool.... 225 hp.

I think you'll really like the VP engine. I posted on another thread about the VP engine(with DuoProp) on my old Four Winns. The engine was 10 years old before we had to replace the original plugs. It never used a drop of oil between oil changes, which was usually about 60 hours. That 5.7 liter with the DuoProp would get the Four Winns on plane in less than 3 seconds with about 5-6 folks aboard.
I thought about the I/O for my new one, but the dealer said it added at least another $5k to the price as well as lots more weight. Not only that, but here in central Missouri it's necessary to winterize an I/O usually in early November and if there are nice days afterwards you are out of luck. With my OB, we get a good day I just drop it in the water and go. I'll have to add some SeaFoam later but that's a small price to pay to get on the water around Thanksgiving or even into December.

WOw she sure is Purty.... Good luck with her. Just got mine a few weeks ago. What is the thingy on the right side of the helm, looks like a oversized bottle holder or cup holder. I cant tell. Just wondering.

Not certain about what kind of holder it is, but if you flip it over, it's a weighted paper towel holder. Holds a roll of paper towels.

Nighthunter;
I have a Duoprop drive on my barge. The handling is amazing! The boat backs very well and i can spin it around in a little more than its length. I replaced the engine two years ago, but it was a well-used 15 years old. Even though i prefer a fishing-friendly layout, yours is very attractive. Enjoy!
