A life jacket for a law enforcement official

#16 Post by lakebilly » Fri May 23, 2014 4:30 am

Here in Indiana the local DNR can be downright pricks.

A couple of buddies were out fishing in there pontoon when a DNR officer approached them. He checked fishing licenses and inquired about the size and limits of the fish on board.

He then asked to board the boat, which he did.

At that point he inquired about a life jacket for him. Guess what? There was no extra life jacket on board for him and he wrote a ticket.

NICE GUY!!

I bet that charge does not hold up in court unless the judge is also a dumb ass.

I've heard that story told several times. Always happens to a friend, a friend of a friend or some "buddies".

Now days every watercraft officer is required to wear a PFD while on their boat. Much the same way that street cops always wear a vest.

And if they don't they're not only incompetent, but also stoopid! (sic)

I am a newbie here, but in my other boats we ALWAYS have 1-2 tolls of toilet paper in a zip lock bag. Never know when that bad mexican food from last night is going to want to come out.

all of the above and obvious stuff plus

Grill
Extra propane for grill
Lighter for grill
Drip tray to go under grill so you dont ruin whoever leaves their stuff under their grill (oops)
12V inflator for rafts
Music hookups
Electrical tools to replace corroded speaker wire terminals or better yet put on weatherproof terminals
extra bulbs for nav lights
phone chargers
bag chairs
12V water pump and hose to rinse off boat deck after deck is covered in dirt/sand from people hopping on and off all day (dont have this yet but thinking about it http://www.harborfreight.com/12-volt-ma ... -9576.html)
extra oil (2 or 4 stroke)

Dont need much more on the lake

Lots of good idea and info I've read here for the last couple of days so there is not much that I could say that has been overlooked... But I must admit I'd plum overlooked adding TP to the boats stash and I will add some next time out! :coffee

To carry all this stuff, you might want to :

1. Get a bigger boat
2. Tow a loaded dinghy
3. Call the Navy for an UNREP (Underway Replenishment) see pic
4. Only allow women as passengers, all that stuff is in their beach bags anyway.
5. Be a "dock slob" and party on the dock cuz there's no room on the boat.

Most important, have fun!!! It sounds like there's great fun in your future. :lol3 :lol3 :lol3

Back to being serious,,, I carry a battery "jumper box" for automobiles as a back up in case I totally fail on keeping the batteries on the boat charged
