Dos, Porfavour!

#1 Post by ToonGuy » Mon Nov 24, 2014 7:56 am

Figured this is an outdoor-sy post so I'd throw it in here...Sunday morning was our day. I learned a few things. I'm a terrible deer hunter. And after only one season my son is bad ass! Around 8:30 he saw 3 does jump the fence on to our property. They stayed in the thick stuff, I only saw one of them for a brief moment. He couldn't get a responsible shot and they eventually disappeared. Pretty soon I see a big doe moving in the field just across the fence line. We wait...for what seemed like an eternity. 45 minutes pass. It starts to rain again. Just as I finally pull my Mossberg back in the blind he says RIGHT THERE! 4 doe 65-70 yards out in the weeds. I level my gun and I can't get one in my scope. He's asking which one to take and I panic and say "just pick one"!!! He fires his Remington, they jump and run left, he asks what to do and I simply pull my gun back in and Bam! He drops another! 2 shots, 2 solid hits neither one went farther than 20 yards. He's got nerves of steel and I've evidentially got the eyesight of an 80 year old! So proud of him I just had to share!

Thanks guys. That second one isn't that small...remember my son is only 13. For eating we don't like them to be grandma. This is his second season hunting, I had a family friend show him the ropes last year and he took a very nice doe on the last day of shotgun. This my first real season and now he's teaching me ( or trying to :lol3 )!!!

Congratulations on venison in the freezer.

I took a nice buck opening day. Not too big, but grain fed and tastes good.

Idea for all those deer hunters out there.

The backstrap makes nice butterfly'd chops.

Use "Shake N Bake" Spicy for Pork on them and bake at 400 for 20 minutes.

MMmmmmmmmmm Gooood.

We also make sausage/venison balls.

1 pound ground sausage or venison
2 cups shredded cheese
2 cups bisquik
1 small can diced green chili's
a pinch each of onion powder, garlic powder and smoked paprika.

mix it all up till it's a big dough ball.

pinch off ping pong sized balls and roll them, place on large baking sheet (parchment paper makes for easy clean up)

Makes about 3 doz and can be placed fairly close together (5 wide & 7 long for example)

Bake for 25 mins at 350 or until golden brown.

Good fresh out of the oven but can be put in a ziploc and frozen.

A few sausage balls nuked in the microwave are good to go with a cup of coffee leaving on a trip of any kind.

A few of them and some fried eggs are mmmmm good.

When I do venison balls and eggs I tell my shooting/hunting buddies that it's "Buck -N- Cluck!"
