Deep sea fishing outside of Panama City

#1 Post by robertm » Tue Apr 07, 2015 7:58 am

Going down to Grayton Beach next week. It’s between Destin and Panama City. Wanted to do a half day charter. Out to the rigs for red snapper and kingfish or along the coast for some sea trout. Whatever’s biting.

Anyone have recommendations for a good Captain? Other advice?

Not actually taking the pontoon bit figured this was the place to find people in the know. Thanks very much!

You will get to deeper water faster out of Destin. That said, Cobia are running just offshore if you like trolling. Large shark are being caught as they follow the Cobia. 780 pound Mako caught the other day. Within St. Andrews Bay: trout, reds in backwater spots. Good hits under Hathaway Bridge.

Here are some names and numbers that might be helpful.
Half-Hitch Tacle, 850-234-2621 for fishing reports and possibly recommendations for boats.

Sunjammers Watersports, 850-235-2281, local kayak (sales and rental) and Hobie dealer selling bait and tackle on the west end of Bay County. They can probably recommend local captains for small charters.

Others I have fished with:
Capt Terry McGowan, 850-896-2582 $$$
Capt Buddy Dortche, 850-235-3257
Both run smaller boats out of Grand Lagoon, PCB and they'll take you where they can put you on the fish.

Gulf Pro Charter, 850-866-1451, larger sport fisher out of Grand Lagoon $$$$

Then there is the party boat for tourist. Capt Anderson's fleet. Big boat, about $60 per person. Grand Lagoon, PCB.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks very much man! Have been thinking about trying some kayaking. Will give that place a call.

Trolling cobia would be fun too.

Much appreciated. I'll let ya know how it turns out!

Capt Terry McGowan is taking us out this afternoon.

Weather has been awful down here this week (of course) hoping for a great day of fishing though!

Will report back in a few.
