Re: 2015 Mercury Four Stroke 90 HP ECM Question
Mike and Teecrow,
Thanks for the insight, I'm going to send mine in also. Weather here has been amazing, supposed to be 70 on Christmas day. Depending on how long they take, I may be able to get on the water first of the year.

Teecrow,
Did you send your ECM into them? If you did, can you share the results?
thanks,
Mike

Only thing I've done to my 75 since purchase was to try out a few different props and to remove the restrictor washer from the air intake tract, which in itself was good for an extra 1.1 MPH

I see, I'm going to remove mine next week and get it sent in. Talk with Debbie from Simon motorsport yesterday. She told me that it would be a three to five day turn around.
I had a 75 HP four stroke on my 2014 tracker 175txw and yes the restrictor plate removal did give me an increase. I could plane out between 40-45 on that boat.

Re: 2015 Mercury Four Stroke 90 HP ECM Question
I had intended to do this my last time off ship but some unexpected dental issues really took the wind out of my sails.... I'll see where I get come late Jan; I'll not be going out on my boat till at best April or May so there is time...mzodarg wrote:I see, I'm going to remove mine next week and get it sent in. Otherwise I'm really impressed with this 2.1 liter motor though as even at WOT it is very quite and it just sounds so smooth and unstrained pushing my lil 18 footer...

Re: 2015 Mercury Four Stroke 90 HP ECM Question
If you plan on getting a flash on your ECM, don't invest in any more propellers. RPM's are RPM's, but when you get the flash done, you'll be able to push a larger pitch prop and that's where your speed increases are going to come from. And pontoons are not the easiest boats to get propped since they're essentially two hulls being pushed by a single engine.

Re: 2015 Mercury Four Stroke 90 HP ECM Question
Yes I'm regretting the last prop purchased as it was a stainless steel "investment" but at the time I didn't know how long it would be before the tune was available. I'm hopeful the 12P will do well with the new found power and RPM; I've also got an alum 13P to test out with the tuned ECM....Bamaman wrote:If you plan on getting a flash on your ECM, don't invest in any more propellers. That was my thinking as I've had issues at WOT hitting only 5100 rpms at 29MPH with a 15x17P, hopefully with the new found power, I'm closer to the optimal WOT rpm with the my current prop.

Re: 2015 Mercury Four Stroke 90 HP ECM Question
If you're running a twin toon boat, you've got a displacement hull and you're going to have speed limitations. A straked hull is a different animal, however. It's getting those nosecones up and out of the water that gets the speed.
And after owning a two toon boat with a conservatively rated 115 hp 2 stroke engine, it seems like 30 mph is where the "bear jumps on the back" of a twin toon boat.
Where the bigger horsepower comes in is being able to cruise at very low rpms pushing a higher pitch prop. I've been on pontoons with 88 hp, and they had to run them 5000-5500 rpms in normal cruising. At the same speeds, I'd be at 2800 rpms and planed out--running efficiently and quietly.

Re: 2015 Mercury Four Stroke 90 HP ECM Question
i got my ecm back from simon on friday
the turn around was 2 days (total of eight days with shipping)
i was running 27 mph at 5700 rpm with a 13.4 x 15 four blade prop
the 90 redlines at 6,000 rpm and the 115 redlines at 6400 rpm
hopefully with the 30 more hp i will be in the ideal rpm range
unfortunately it will be 4 months until i get to find out what the gain is
hopefully i will see the low 30's
you are correct it takes alot of hp to go fast with a two tube boat
my neighbor has a 22' harris with a 150 and he can run about 36
that is on a two tube boat without strakes
I will report back in in the spring

Sounds like there will be a bunch of us gnawing at the ropes waiting for spring....crookedlaker wrote:....unfortunately it will be 4 months until i get to find out what the gain is hopefully i will see the low 30's...
I'm hoping that with the burn I can realize 35 when wanted but would be happy with a solid 32 while loaded. After being bound to 16 now going 27 really feels quick and I don't see us using the power to go WOT speeds unless the weather is pressing. I see using the new found power to be able to pull tubes, boards or even a skier with a load on board....

Like you stated, I'm looking for the same. 35 Mph is what I would like to gain also, not sure it will happen, but it would be nice. I'm Currently getting 28+ at WOT @5100 rpms so I think 35 may not be a pipe dream.

Re: 2015 Mercury Four Stroke 90 HP ECM Question
I can't swing the same size dia. prop as you as I'm not in a CT foot but I'm curious what size prop your running? You've got decent speed but it appears that your running out of ass before reaching ideal WOT of 6K... Have you tried any other props?mzodarg wrote:.... Being pound foolish instead of penny wise I've already tired 5 props (2 from the 60) out on my new motor to find what I felt was the sweet spot for the 75 which was a 14" dia x 12" pitch as once I opened up the intake tract my RPM went right to ideal 75 WOT of 5500 RPM @ 27.9 MPH with the restricter I was 5200 @ 26.8 MPH... I tried both an 11 & 13 pitch only to see the same speeds just at different RPM's...
Also really thinking about getting one of those Mercury Smart Craft gauges if for no other reason than to have the abilty to see fuel consumption as well as RPM in digital format so that I can see in real time where the gallons go in relationship to speed & RPM....

Anything Smartcraft is expensive to setup.
I'd just try to prop it where it runs 6000 rpms with 2 people and 1/2 tank of fuel. Chances are that's where you're going to get your optimum performance anyway.

The smaller System Monitor is about 200 and the larger faced MercMonitor is less than 400 plus at best 100 for cabling.... Giving a full range of display from oil pressure, water temp & pressure plus battery and hours....Bamaman wrote:Anything Smartcraft is expensive to setup.
